MOGADISHU, Somalia, December 26, 2015 (Garowe Online)-As Muslims around the world have celebrated the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), Somalia’s Federal Government has declared Mawlid al-Nabi ‘National Holiday’ in the traditionally Muslim nation, Garowe Online reports.

The Speaker of Federal Parliament Mohamed Sheikh Osman Jawari announced the religious status in a festive event celebrating Mawlid al-Nabi.

This year’s Mawlid attracted larger faithful for the first time since AlShabaab began losing grounds in central and Southern Somalia.

Somali militant group strongly rejects Mawlid al-Nabi notion.

Bureaucrats and civil servants will be on holiday after a year that day.
