​Somalia: Federal government issues new measures to stabilize the capital

MOGADISHU, Somalia- In a press conference held in the capital Mogadishu on Saturday the Federal government has announced new security measures to enforce security in the capital, Garowe Online reports.   

The Minster of Security Mohamed Abukar Islow “Duaale” along with top chiefs of national army, Police forces and Intelligence Agency have jointly announced the new orders which was endorsed by the council ministers.

Since the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan joint units from the army, Police and Intelligence Agency are carrying out security operation named “Mogadishu Stabilization Mission” aimed to drive out suspected militants to deter terrorist attacks.

The new measures included; disbarment of civilians and ban use of military uniforms except for government forces, evacuation of bases belonging to the national army and control movement of military vehicles.

On his side, the commander of Police forces, Abdihakin Dahir Saed “Sa’ed” announced that a special police unit (SPU) will be formed to protect top government officials. The unit will have a special command that will be distinguished from the army and Police.

The head of National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) Abdulahi Mohamed Ali “Sanboloshe” has vowed to stabilize the capital as top security officials have jointly agreed to expedite the plans to enforce security in the country. He also urged the joint forces in Mogadishu to serve the people and treat them with respect and dignity.

In the past weeks, the joint forces clashed with armed militias in the neighborhoods during the disbarment mission and managed to seize large caches of weapons and military uniforms, which was hailed by Mogadishu residents.
