Somalia: Galmudug claims victory against Al Shabaab

ADADO, Somalia-Vigilantes aided by Galmudug troops have clashed with Al Shabaab militants in central Mudug region, officials have confirmed. 

Galmudug Information Minister Mohamud Adan Osman told the media, that they inflicted heavy losses on Al Shabaab militants in clashes in Ad and El Abdi vicinities.

He claimed that 22 Al Shabaab fighter were killed. 

“Residents of Aad and El Abdi are brave enough to reject Al Shabaab. 

They engaged in fighting in which they killed 22 militants,” he said.  He noted that Al Shabaab have coerced the locals and made them a subject for subjugation. 

Continuing, Osman said that Galmudug forces along with armed vigilantes managed to seize weaponry from the Somali militant group.  

Somali government forces aided by African Union peacekeepers have dislodged militants from a string of strategic towns in central and southern Somalia.
