​Somalia: Galmudug state presidential election postponed again

ADADO, Somalia- Galmudug interim administration has announced on Saturday it postponed the upcoming state presidential election to beginning of next month May, Garowe Online reports.

During a press conference held in Adado town, the chairman of presidential election committee, Mohamed Hasan Gelle, said the election is rescheduled to May 3.

The election was postponed to allow for more preparation and ensured presidential ballot will be held on time next month, said Gelle.

The presidential candidates were expected to give campaign speeches today ahead of the ballot on Sunday April 30, but postponed by the election committee.

Three candidates are running for the state presidency, Ahmed Duale Gelle, Ahmed Sharif Ali and Abdiqadir Shirwa. 

Last week, the planned Federal government mediated talks between Galmudug and its rival Ahlu Sunna group has failed in Mogadishu after both sides disagreed on power-sharing agreements. Ahlu Sunna group which controls a large portion of the region has been opposition to Galmudug as the regional state for Galgadud and Mudug regions.
