Somalia: Huge fire engulfs part of Bakaro market in Mogadishu

MOGADISHU, Somalia- Many properties were reported burnt to ashes after a huge fire has engulfed Somalia's biggest market in Mogadishu on Monday morning, Garowe Online reports.

"The fire-prone Bakara market in Mogadishu is burning down since late last night. Several sections destroyed," said Ahmed Jama, who runs a small shop in the market, and witnessed the tragedy.

Footages taken from the scene show a plume of thick black Smoke and flames billowing from Bakara market in Mogadishu this morning after huge fire broke out that was rapidly spreading to new areas.

Garowe Online's reporter in the capital reported that the fire has affected the Khilafa section occupied by traders of cosmetics, furniture and textile. Properties worth millions of USD is feared lost to the blaze.

GO reporter who visited the scene said Mogadishu's fire fighters were seen battling to put out the fire, which was said to have been raging since last night at 3:00 a.m. and continued till the morning.

Somali Police Force were seen on the ground controlling the crowd who were there to witness the fire which has swept through Mogadishu's biggest market in the Somali capital.
