Somalia: Intelligence service claims to have conducted surprise operation

MOGADISHU, Somalia, June 22, 2015 (Garowe Online)-Somali National Intelligence and Security Agency said it has conducted surprise operation in key Al Shabaab stronghold in southern Somalia on Monday, Garowe Online reports.

The anti-terror raid was coordinated in revenge for an attack by Al Shabaab gunmen on a training facility in Mogadishu’s Shibis district on Sunday, Somali intelligence Service said on its twitter handle.

Senior Al Shabaab official identified as Yusuf Haji was killed in the rare operation that reportedly targeted meeting in Gedo regional district of Bardhere.

National Security spokesman Mohamed Yusuf said on government-run station, Radio Mogadishu that the raid is part of a series of future operations.

Al Shabaab has yet to comment on Intelligence Agency claims.

The Somali militant group stepped up rampage in the holy month of Ramadan, marking its first day with botched attack in central town, Adado.
