AFGOOYE, Somalia, November 12, 2015 (Garowe Online)-Somali intelligence service and heavily armed security forces have conducted massive clean-up operation on Mogadishu-Afgooye road after botched attempt on the life of Southwest State President, Sharif Hassan Sheikh Adan, witnesses confirmed.

The soldiers in armored personnel carriers made searches and arrested many suspects in the operation.

Intelligence reports show that explosives were tracked in advance and might possibly have been prepared in the area.

At least two cars packed full of explosives tried to ram into a convoy carrying Adan on Wednesday. Southwest state leader escaped unharmed from the pre-planned suicide attack according to aides.

As has been the case, Somali militant group was quick to claim credit for the suicide attack.

Adan replaced heroic Lower Shabelle Governor Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur (Siidi) with Ibrahim Adan Ali on the same day.

Siidi has been known for uttering harsh words; more often against Al Qaeda inspired militants.
