MOGADISHU, Somalia – The Minister of Information for the Federal Government of Somalia, Dahir Mohamud Gelle has on Wednesday quit from his position, Garowe Online reports.

Gelle confirmed his resignation in an exclusive interview with the Washington-based VOA’s Somali Service, saying he left the job over differences of opinion with the leadership of the Somali Government.

The minister who has been in office for 11 months said he took the decision after failing to contribute his political views to the Government policy towards the foreign affairs and Somalia’s Federal states.

Gelle becomes the 5th high profile minister to step down since the current Government took the oath of office in early 2017.

Former Somali minister for Humanitarian and Disaster Management, Maryan Qasim has resigned November 15, 2017, citing incertitude and disorder in the government.

Somali Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire appointed Abdullahi Ali Hassan as minister of trade and reinstated Mohamed Abdi Hayir Mareye in his former position as Information minister, replacing Dahir Gelle who suddenly resigned today.

The latest resignation comes as the UN-backed weak Government in Mogadishu is currently facing numerous challenges on security, political and economic fronts.
