Somalia parliament votes in favor of no-confidence motion against Jubba assembly

MOGADISHU, Somalia, June 6, 2015(Garowe Online)-Lawmakers in Somalia’s Federal Parliament have endorsed a controversial motion against the newly formed Jubaland regional assembly in a vote marred by delays and by Saturday loud bang, Garowe Online reports.

Of the 142 MPs present in the parliament hall, 132 lawmakers voted in favor of dissolving Jubaland parliament, four voted against the motion while six MPs abstained from voting.

A big applause rattled the parliament shortly, with backers of the challenge showing off support for the decision.

Earlier today, 150 MPs are said to have arrived at the parliament house, nevertheless some lawmakers feeling dissatisfied with the no confidence vote walked out.

Jubaland which threatened to suspend cooperation with Mogadishu-based Federal Government was not quick to react to the parliamentary no confidence vote.

On April 15, Jubaland presented 75-member assembly at a ceremony at Kismayo presidential palace.

On May 7, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud along with Foreign Ministers from Ethiopia and Kenya as well as International Community representatives attended inauguration of regional assembly in the Southern Port City of Kismayo

Analysts believe that the decision by the often fickle 275-seat-chamber of parliament could deal blow to the country’s framework for action.
