Somalia: Prominent clan elder killed in Marka, third in Ramadan

MARKA, Somalia, June 25, 2015 (Garowe Online)-Two gunmen killed prominent clan elder in Lower Shabelle regional capital of Marka of southern Somalia, marking the third to be targeted in Ramadan rampage, Garowe Online reports.

Ali Hamza, a renowned clan elder was killed near his home shortly after he left a mosque overnight on Tuesday evening according to witnesses.

The two attackers managed to escape before security forces pressed ahead with brief search operation.

Since the start of the holy month of Ramadan, two traditional leaders-Hassan Adan Dekow and Mumin Barre Ade- have been killed in planned assassinations in central Somalia town of Beledweyne.

The Somali militant group honed suicide attacks and assassinations in central and southern Somalia.

Somali government forces aided by African Union peacekeepers dislodged militants from a string of strategic towns.
