Somalia: Rebuilding of armed forces ‘top priority’ but needs int’l support-PM

MOGADISHU, Somalia, October 3, 2015(Garowe Online)-Rebuilding of strong army is a top priority for Somalia to fend off terrorism but Prime Minister Omar Abdirashid Ali Sharmarke said, the country needs international support, Garowe Online reports.

Speaking on VOA Somali Service, Sharmarke noted, should the country boast of strong army, Somalia can exercise sufficiency in the badly battered security sector.

“The support can be trainings and military gears,” he said.

He suggested that Somalia aims to reach economic growth target to pay salaries of national army troops, and open military academies.

Somali government forces aided by African Union peacekeepers have made major gains against Al Shabaab militants in central and southern Somalia.
