​Somalia: Separate attacks in Kismayo and Beledwayne

KISMAYO, Somalia- at least 2 soldiers killed and 5 other wounded in several explosions that hit Kismayo, regional capital of Jubaland state, Garowe Online reports.

Suspected militants have tossed hand grenades at a military bases belonging to the Jubaland army forces located in Dal’ade and Alanley neighborhood in Kismayo, on Tuesday night, according to local residents.

Al Shabaab militants group claimed responsibility of the attacks and said they have targeted Jubaland army forces in the areas, killing two soldiers.  

In similar incident, early on Tuesday, Jubaland Intelligence Agency’s base in Kismayo, came under attack, after suspected terrorists threw hand grenade at the base, which has wounded 3 soldiers and damaged part of the base.

The attacks came amid ongoing process of selecting parliamentarians for the Upper House chamber representing Jubaland state.

A military base for the Djibouti troops serving with the African Union forces (AMISOM) near Beledwayne town in Hiiran region, was targeted in a mortar shelling on Tuesday night.

Police official told GO that Al Shabaab militants have fired 7 mortars shelling targeting Djibouti army base located in Howl wadag neighborhood in Beleddwayne, but no causalities were reported from the attacks.  

Al Qaida linked Al Shabaab group has intensified its attacks against security forces and AMISOM amid Somalia’s preparation for the upcoming parliamentary and presidential elections expected to conclude in November 30.
