MOGADISHU, (GO) - The American Embassy in Mogadishu has confirmed that President of Puntland, Said Abdulahi Dani, discussed the country's security situation with them.

The embassy tweeted that President Dani is committed to partnering with the US government to fight global terror networks.

Concerns have been raised about the Puntland government's slow response to terrorism, with sources revealing that all security agencies have been diverted to protect registration equipment for disputed local council elections. This diversion has allowed terrorist groups to increase their attacks and rebuild previously destroyed networks.

Sources also told Garowe Online that US security officials met with the President of Puntland at Bosaso Airport last month to discuss concerns about increasing terrorist activity, especially in the Barri region.

According to Puntland security officers, these groups have created a financial network that sends money to international terrorist organizations like Al Qaeda and ISIS.

Additionally, reliable sources revealed to GO that the President of Puntland has been hesitant to communicate with international embassies, particularly the United States, since announcing a cut-off in relations with the Federal Government of Somalia.

It is noteworthy that the current Puntland government has only 10 months left in its term, and there are concerns of political chaos as the incumbent president seeks an extension.

The United States has been providing support to Somalia in the fight against the Al-Shabaab terrorist organization, including intelligence, training, equipment, and airstrikes against militants.

The American embassy's discussions with the President may have been an effort to assess the security situation in the country and determine the level of support needed to combat terrorism.
