Somalia's Auditor General challenges sacking decision by Prime Minister

MOGADISHU, Somalia- The country’s Auditor General Nur Farah Jimale has challenged the sacking decision by Prime Minister Hasan Ali Khayre on Thursday, Garowe Online reports.

Speaking to local radio station in the capital Mogadishu, Jimale said the move is unconstitutional and only the Federal Parliament has the legal mandate to relief him from the post.

Somalia’s cabinet of ministers unanimously approved the sacking of the Auditor General on Thursday, so that Police authorities can carry out the investigation into the killing of Minister of Public works and Reconstruction Abas Abdulahi Siraj by Jimale’s bodyguards on last Wednesday.

“Council of Ministers’ decision to sack me is illegal, they don't have legal mandate, the Federal Parliament has the authority to replace me,” added Jimale.

The Minister for Public Works and Reconstruction Siraj was on Wednesday evening shot dead near Villa Somalia. Jimale’s bodyguards had shot the Minister on suspicious the occupants of the car are linked to al-Shabaab group.

Four of the bodyguards involved in the shooting were arrested and authorities are carrying investigation into the incident.
