TPLF: Ethiopian forces making desperate attacks to take positions in Wollo

NAIROBI, Kenya - The Tigray People's Liberation Front [TPLF] has yet again accused the Ethiopian army of allegedly trying to take over North Wollo in Tigray but has noted that such attempts have been thwarted by the rebels, who are working hard to "prevent" another genocide in Tigray.

North Wollo was taken by TPLF about 37 days ago but there have been deliberate attempts to retake the town. Throughout the skirmishes, the TPLF argued, hundreds of Ethiopian soldiers have been killed, making it extremely difficult for the government troops to make advances.

Getachew Reda, the TPLF spokesperson insisted that the Tigray forces will continue to resist attempts to commit genocide by the government troops and their Eritrean counterparts, who are accused of also making advances from the northern part of Ethiopia in the Tigray region.

"Abiy Ahmed’s treasonous army has been repeatedly making desperate attempts to take back positions in North Wollo that it had lost roughly 37 days ago CV only for it to lose tens of thousands of troops and materiel," he said.

"It's repeated efforts to make so much as a small dent in our defense lines fizzled out 3 days ago with our forces managing to pursue retreating enemy units all the way to the outskirts of Waldiya," added the spokesperson, who has been giving briefs about the war which has taken over 23 months.

The spokesperson also regretted that Ethiopian troops were giving up on the war and instead giving the Eritrean troops power to terrorize residents of Tigray. The government of Eritrea has remained mum over alleged involvement in the Tigray conflict but there is empirical evidence to link the Asmara forces to the skirmishes.

"Now that Abiy Regime’s repeated counter-offensives in this front have been effectively thwarted and the regime has now fully handed over its resources to IsaiasAfeworki, our forces are being redeployed to better confront head-on threats elsewhere and reverse the second round of genocidal campaign waged by the twin tyrants in the Horn," he said.

The World Food Programme [WFP] has warned that millions of people are being exposed to hunger, noting that the hostilities should be ended for the sake of peace and stability, adding that the vulnerable families should also be reached out for assistance.

"We're not moving any trucks in presently" and no staff has been able to enter or leave Tigray since Aug. 24, WFP's regional director for East Africa," Michael Dunford said Thursday, adding that there is a real need for the offensive to end, for the fighting to stop.
