BELEDWEYNE, Somalia - At least 6 people have been killed, 15 others wounded after a suicide bomber blew himself up in a restaurant in Beledweyne city in central Somalia on Sunday, Garowe Online reports.

A witness said a terrorist wearing a suicide belt has walked into the crowded restaurant near the headquarters of Hiran regional administration, posing as a customer and targeted a group of diners.

Speaking to the Media following the incident, the governor of Hiran region, Omar Aden Ibrahim Badiyow, has strongly condemned the 'horrific' suicide bombing that killed the innocent people.

Mohamed Ali, a medical nurse at Hiran regional hospital, told GO over the phone from Beledweyne that they had received 15 injured at the clinic, including three local journalists, with minor wounds.

Al-Shabaab, the Al Qaeda-affiliated Somalia-based militant group, has claimed responsibility for the deadly attack, according to its military operations spokesman, Sheikh Abdiaziz Abu Musab.

Abu Musab said they killed six employees working for Hiran regional administration in the restaurant bombing,  and injured several others. Meanwhile, the local security officials put the death toll at two.

Last Friday, Al shabaab bomber detonated himself up at a tea shop in Baidoa city, about 250Km northwest of Mogadishu, killing at least four, including two aid workers with local NGOs.

The extremist group often carries out deadly bombings in high-profile areas in Somalia's capital, Mogadishu, and elsewhere in the country, trying to topple the UN-backed Federal government.
