​Somalia: leaders of Federal government, regional administrations wrap up meeting in Mogadishu

MOGADISHU, Somalia- The Leaders of Somalia’s Federal government and the Federal Member states have wrapped up a two-day consultative meeting in the capital Mogadishu on Monday, Garowe Online reports.

The participants included the Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo, the Speaker of the Parliament Mohammed Sheikh Osman Jawari, Prime Minister  Hassan Ali Khayre, the President of Puntland, Abdiweli Mohamed Ali, the President of Jubbaland, Ahmed Madobe, the President of the Southwest, Sharif Hassan Sheikh Adan, and the vice President of Galmudug, Mohamed Hashi.

The Somali leaders have issued a joint communiqué that emphasis on drought, restructure of the national security apparatus, the fight against al-Shabaab, and formation of a national security council chaired by President Farmajo.

According to the communique, leaders also agreed to the formation of four divisions of the security structure namely, the Intelligence services, Police force, armed forces and custodial forces.

The leaders commended the 'massive response' by Somalis inside the country and in the Diaspora, as well as the international community who pushed efforts to avert looming famine crisis. They also indicated the need to establish a clear strategy to prevent the recurrent droughts conditions in the country.

This meeting was the first between President Farmajo and regional leaders since his election in February,  and it reported they have also discussed about the  political progress, economic development, ways to strength relations between the Federal government and Federal member states.
