Somalia’s Federal Parliament approves new Prime Minister Khyre

MOGADISHU, Somalia- Members of the Somali Federal Parliament have approved on Wednesday Somali President’s appointment of Hasan Ali Khyre as the new Prime Minister of the Federal government, Garowe Online reports.

Somali President Mohamed Abdulahi Mohamed Farmajo has officially opened the first parliamentary session of the Federal Parliament in the capital Mogadishu and addressed the lawmakers about major issues faced by the country, and requested them to work closely with the new Federal government and approve the PM nomination.   

Following the voting session in the Hall, Somali Parliament Speaker, Mohamed Osman Jawari, said that majority of Somali lawmakers have endorsed the appointment of Khyre as MP, the session was attended by 231 lawmakers out of 329-member of both chambers.

Prime Minister Khyre who holds a dual Somali-Norwegian citizenship is expected to form the new cabinet in the coming weeks and to be approved by the Federal Parliament.

The new Federal government is facing daunting tasks to overcome many trouble in the East African nation including insecurity, drought, corruption and fighting Al Qaida-affiliated Al Shabaab terror group.
