Jubaland VP meets Somalia Defense Minister, UN delegation

BARDERA, Somalia, August 22, 2015 (Garowe Online)-Jubaland’s caretaker Vice President, Gen. Abdullahi Sheikh Ismael (Fartag) has discussed post-liberation security initiatives with Somali Defense Minister and United Nations delegation in Bardera town of Southwestern Somalia, Radio Jubbaland has reported.

Fartag accompanied Defense Minister Gen. Abdulkadir Sheikh Ali (Diini) on a trip to the Gedo region town, Bardera, overseeing the inauguration of airstrip for the first time in ten years.

Somali government forces aided by African Union peacekeepers liberated Bardera from militants last month.

He said, meetings ended in success and tour was about assessing the situation after the fall of the former Al Shabaab economic-powerhouse.

Bardera is believed to had since been a key operational base for Somalia’s beleaguered Al Shabaab group.
