GAROWE, Somalia – Puntland has heightened their response measures following the confirmation of a fatal Ebola case in neighboring Kenya.

In an official statement released Tuesday by the Puntland Ministry of Health, officials said the Federal State was stepping up preparedness, early detection, and rapid response mechanisms to mitigate potential risks of the virus spreading.

The precautionary measures follow Kenya’s confirmation of its first Ebola case involving a patient who traveled from the Democratic Republic of Congo through Uganda before passing away in Nairobi.

"The Ministry of Health informs the public of Puntland that no cases of Ebola virus disease have been confirmed in Puntland to date," the ministry stated, adding that it is closely monitoring the situation across neighboring countries and the broader region.

Health authorities urged members of the public—particularly travelers returning from affected areas—to immediately seek medical attention at the nearest health facility if they experience symptoms such as high fever, severe fatigue, headache, muscle pain, vomiting, diarrhea, or unusual bleeding.

The ministry noted it is coordinating with governmental agencies and international health partners to strengthen local capacity for disease prevention and emergency management.
